Peter Van Onselen's arguments for increasing the duration of courses (HES 15/2/12) is analogous to being lectured by the weight loss industry about why spending more time at the gym is good for you.

Universities will become increasingly irrelevant due to free access to knowledge on the internet and because they fail to adapt. Increasing the duration of courses, rather than shortening them as customers (students, parents, employers) demand is just one example.
