Applying for Medicine in the UK and New Zealand?

4 months ago by Robert

UCAT is used by universities in New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom for selection of students into medicine and dentistry. If you wish to apply to universities in both Australia/New Zealand and the UK, there is a specific procedure relating to UCAT that you must follow.

Sit UCAT ANZ

You will need to sit the UCAT ANZ in order to apply to both Australia/NZ and UK consortium universities for entry in 2026. There are two specific reasons for this:

  1. Australian and New Zealand admissions deadlines occur earlier in the year in comparison to UK admissions.
  1. Australian and New Zealand universities only accept UCAT ANZ results. However, you can also use your UCAT ANZ results for UK university admissions.

How do I sit UCAT ANZ?

In order to sit UCAT ANZ you must register an account with Pearson VUE via the official UCAT ANZ consortium site. After registering your account you will receive a UCAT ANZ ID number (e.g. ANZ12345678).

Once you’ve finished registering you will be able to book your test from your Pearson VUE account. You will be able to select your preferred testing centre, date and time slot. More details on how to register for UCAT ANZ here.

Can I sit both UCAT ANZ and UCAT UK?

Those sitting UCAT are not permitted to sit both UCAT and UCAT ANZ in the same year. Candidates who attempt to do so will have their results annulled.

How will ANZ universities receive my UCAT ANZ results?

After completing UCAT ANZ your results will automatically be provided to UCAT ANZ Consortium universities.

How will UK universities receive my UCAT ANZ results?

In order for UCAT UK universities to receive your UCAT ANZ results you must complete the UCAT ANZ Results Collection Form from the UCAT UK website. The form will become available from October 2025.

You will need your UCAT ANZ ID number and UCAS (University and Colleges Admissions Service) personal ID to complete this form. UCAS is the central body responsible for servicing university applications in the UK. The deadline for UCAS applications is 15 October 2025. You can apply for a UCAS personal ID here: https://www.ucas.com/

Also note that each university has its own requirements when admitting international students into their courses. You should contact the admissions officer of each course you are interested in to confirm the requirements.

Keep in mind that the test format and content of UCAT ANZ and UCAT UK are identical.
