Technological advancements have revolutionized learning, making it more effective and efficient in all domains, including the UCAT. While you may be familiar with the basic features of the MedEntry UCAT platform, perhaps you are unaware of the lesser-known tools that can significantly enhance your UCAT study process and ultimately boost your UCAT scores.
In this blog, we'll unveil 6 hidden gems of the MedEntry Online Learning Platform that you may not be familiar with, but will make a huge difference in your UCAT preparation journey.
Dark Mode: Studying at your convenience
Late-night study sessions are often the norm for aspiring medical students, and the inclusion of Dark Mode in the MedEntry UCAT preparation platform and App can be a real game-changer. This feature doesn't just provide a stylish aesthetic; it's specifically designed to reduce eye strain and enhance comfort while studying in low-light environments. Make the most of Dark Mode during your late-night UCAT preparation sessions to ensure a focused and visually friendly learning experience.
You can freely switch between light and dark modes with the toggle under the account drop-down menu on the top right of the platform.
AI Power-Up Feature: Engaging in targeted practice
As you progress with your UCAT practice, you will unlock the Power-Up with AI feature. This tool uses data from past QBank practice attempts to offer you new questions that are suited for your skill level, or slightly above, so you can ‘level up’ your UCAT skills in a more personalized manner.
To unlock the Power-Up with AI feature, you must feed the online learning platform’s AI some data by completing at least some practice questions in each of the five UCAT subtests. Once you’ve unlocked Power-Up with AI, it is recommended to use it early on in your UCAT preparation so you can start to achieve progress steadily and gradually within your QBank practice attempts. Once you’ve reached the later stages of your prep, you may want to turn this tool off, so that you can attempt questions of varying difficulty in order to simulate the live UCAT.
Retry Feature: Learning from your mistakes
The most efficient way to improve in your UCAT is to work on questions that you find challenging. The retry function makes this easy. After completing a UCAT subtest mock or practice exam, you can reattempt the same test with only the questions you answered incorrectly. By focusing on these questions and learning from them immediately, you can make full use of every mock you attempt, and boosting your skills and confidence.
You can access the retry feature by navigating to the History page, where you can find a list of all your attempted subtest mocks and full-length UCAT mock exams. You can retry each UCAT subtest mock or full mock a maximum of four times. Once you feel like you’ve made enough retry attempts, don’t forget to review your mocks!
Error Log: Turn mistakes into lessons
When you’re ready to start reviewing, be sure to make good use of the Error Log feature to transform your mistakes into valuable lessons.
When you review a completed practice question, you will find a drop-down menu nestled under “Why do you think you’ve made a mistake?”. This lists out common error reasons such as ‘Didn’t read fast enough’, or ‘Misread the question stem’. You can select the reason for why you’ve made an error for that specific question, which will automatically file the question in your ‘Error Log’.
On the Error Log page, you can systematically review questions based on the error reason and find advice on how to tackle each type of common error. You will also find a handy pie chart and performance graph to track which reasons cause the most errors and how you are performing based on these errors over time.
Bookmarks: Personalising Your Learning Journey
With five different UCAT subtests and many subtypes of questions within each section, UCAT preparation requires you to cover a huge range of concepts and questions. The Bookmarks feature allows you to save specific questions or learning resources for later revision.
Going through the curriculum and finding a lesson difficult? Bookmark it. Finding a UCAT question particularly challenging? Bookmark it. By bookmarking liberally, you can create a personalized library of resources and practice questions, ensuring you can efficiently revise challenging UCAT topics.
You can also access any personal notes taken, community discussions you’ve participated in, or queries you’ve submitted for expert support (available in the Premium and Comprehensive packages) from the bookmarks page.
Detailed Analytics: Tracking Your Progress Effectively
Keeping track of your performance is crucial for targeted improvement. With detailed analytics available, MedEntry’s UCAT Platform provides insights into your UCAT progress over time. This provides a visual representation to gauge your areas of weakness, to better tailor your UCAT study.
The Performance over time graph lets you know how you’re progressing with your accuracy of questions in each subtest and overall. The red trend line shows your accuracy over time and you can hover over each bar to see your accuracy of question answering on a given date.
The Performance by question type graph gives you an understanding of how you’re performing personally, and how you’re performing vs the wider MedEntry cohort for each type of question within a given subtest. This is a good way to determine which question type you should focus on for your next QBank study session.
The Timing by question type graph gives you an idea of how you’re tracking in terms of timing vs the recommended timing, and against the average MedEntry student. This is another particularly useful tool to determine which areas need further practice, as timing is one of the most important factors to performing well in the UCAT.
By utilizing these analytics, you can tailor your study approach, manage your time effectively, and refine your strategies for maximum results.
