We encourage you to attend a UMAT Course even if you have to travel a long distance. Many students from other cities, interstate and overseas travel to attend our UMAT Courses, because there are several benefits of attending. For example: in addition to reading, it is beneficial to hear from an expert to reinforce the content; interaction with other like-minded students will help develop your thinking; the UMAT Course provides networking opportunities with motivated and able students from various schools in your city, other states and overseas; it will significantly boost to your motivation; some inside knowledge/ information is provided in the UMAT Course which is not available elsewhere; numerous UMAT sample questions and efficient, effective and elegant ways of arriving at the answer will be discussed; the skills learnt in the UMAT Course will be invaluable for high school/uni study in addition to UMAT.
In the evaluations, students say that they did not use the resources on the LMS and did not know how to efficiently and effectively use them until they attended the MedEntry UMAT Course. Invest in your future by enhancing your thinking skills.
At the UMAT Course you will also be given the opportunity to sit a trial UMAT exam, based on which you will receive predicted UMAT scores. Students find this unique information extremely valuable in planning their year and the UMAT preparation, including which sections to focus on.

Most of the UMAT courses are run by Dr Edward, an academic with over thirty years of experience teaching in Australian universities (other MedEntry lecturers have similar background and expertise). He has published several articles on educational research, delivered numerous papers/keynote addresses at several Teaching and Learning Conferences and won numerous awards for teaching excellence. He has a long-standing interest in Psychometric measurement and spent time at educational research institutes such as the ETS (Princeton, USA) and NFER (Slough, UK). Ed also lectured at several universities in various countries such as Brazil, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, USA and UK. He has been a Consultant and an Expert Witness for several organisations.
Dr Edward has been training students for tests such as the UMAT for over two decades. Among his successful students include his own children, both of whom held the Monash Scholarship for Exceptional Achievement, which are awarded to the best incoming student each year. They also received numerous other awards, accolades and achievements such as the "Youth of the Year" (State winners & National Finalists in 2001 and 2003); Premier's Awards; Australian Students Prizes for Excellence; School Captains of Selective Entry Schools; ATAR scores of 99.9; "Achiever of the Year" (awarded for the most outstanding co-curricular and community involvement to a Year 12 student each year in the state); Gold Medals in the University of NSW International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS); numerous awards for excellence in public speaking; Caltex Best All-rounder Awards; State level Debaters; perfect scores in UMAT; graduation in Medicine with First Class Honours etc.
They are not only the youngest doctors to be accepted into the training programs of the most competitive of medical specialties, but have also won medals for obtaining the top score in the country in the specialist training theory and clinical exams held by Royal Colleges (eg., see RACP News, Vol 32, No 2, April 2012, p27). His daughter won an unprecedented three medals in the nationwide Fellowship exams ('The Mole' ACD Issue 102, Spring 2014, p 8, 18; Health Link, Dec 2014 Issue 19, p 14). They are both currently working as Consultant Specialists. Dr Edward will aim to pass on to you the advice he gave his children which contributed to their unparalleled success. Dr Edward comes from a family of 28 doctors.

To find out which UMAT course you are enrolled in, please follow these steps:
If a UMAT Course is shown as "Full" and you feel that is the only UMAT Course that you can attend due to other commitments, please enrol in another "Open" UMAT Course and email us with a request to transfer you to the UMAT Course shown as "Full".
We will make every effort to ensure that your request is accommodated.
Yes, you can change the date of your UMAT Course, as long as the UMAT Course you would like to move into is not full.
In order to change the UMAT Course that you are enrolled in to a different course, please follow these steps.
Please do not panic. There is no need to phone us either.
Please simply send an email letting us know which course you would like to attend instead, and we will arrange it for you.
Similarly, if you are running late, there is no need to call. Just show up when you can and see the Lecturer during the next break.
If you prefer to attend a UMAT course with a smaller class size, please choose a non-school holiday (shown as 'Weekend Course') workshop. We recommend avoiding attending UMAT Courses in the January, April and July school holidays as these UMATcourses are heavily booked.
The numbers in some 'non-school holiday' UMAT Courses can be as few as ten students. You may also wish to consider attending Courses in smaller cities (eg Newcastle, Gold Coast) as the number of students attending there will be low.
The exact location of your UMAT Course will be emailed to you about two days prior to the Course. You will be provided with a map (if available), full directions on how to get to the location, what materials you will need to bring and what you will need to do before attending. Note: all of this information is also available on this FAQ page.
The locations of the UMAT Courses have been carefully chosen. Where possible, we have chosen a central city location which is easy to travel to using public or private transport, and one which has good facilities and amenities nearby.
For the most up to date information about the location of UMAT Courses in various cities, please refer to this FAQ page under 'UMAT Courses' at the end, where various cities are listed.
If you have to travel a long distance to attend a course because you are living in another city, state or country, you will find hotel/motel accommodation by searching on the internet. We are unable to advise on this matter.
However, BEFORE you make such travel arrangements, we strongly advise you to contact us and confirm that the course that you intend to attend will in fact, be offered. The UMAT courses, particularly in smaller cities, may be cancelled since the running of such courses may be subject to minimum numbers. In rare instances, some courses may be cancelled due to circumstances beyond our control.
